Has anyone had success using the DTX with GarageBand utilizing MIDI? I have downloaded the driver and software from yamaha but I don't think it is compatible with OS X version 10.11. I am not very tech savvy and I am new to the MAC world.

Hey, Neal!

Apologies for the delay in response.

DTXM12 can definitely send MIDI information to GarageBand so you can trigger GB's internal Virtual Instruments, or record the MIDI data to play back through the DTXM12's sound module. If you're still having trouble with setting that all up, please reach out to your country's Product Support team so they can guide you and trouble-shoot in real-time. You can go to http://www.yamaha.com, select your country/area and go to the "Support" page to view contact options. If you're in the USA, that'd be here.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do from here.

Thanks,

You need to install the driver from Yamaha. It should work with OS X 10.11.1. To get the driver to see the DTX, you need midi set to usb on DTX itself. (I am doing this from memory so you might want to double check in the manual.) Hit UTIL then arrow over until you see MIDI, hit ENTER and arrow over until you see MIDI => MIDI, Hit the + button to change it to USB, hit STORE and ENTER to save.
