Just sharing my current Multi-12 kits setup, including 20 extra melodic GM kits that add more variety, also when midi controlling a keyboard synth and mixing it's output into the Multi-12 Aux Input.
I've set up the pad voice tunings for a useful range of 'white key' notes, but if you prefer the 'black key' notes just copy kit U102 and change the GM voices (refer to Data lists, pg14).
Btw, some voices may require their Release time to be adjusted (in the VCE3-3 menu).

Most of the original M-12 preset kits have been reconfigured for easier playing (compare kits P50 & U01) and more convenient switching combinations of acoustic and electronic kits (in U101 to U150).
Some kits are setup to play with a Hihat pedal switching Variation effects (flanger/phaser/chorus) and 2 kick pedals (eg KU100) connected to Inputs 14/15 for pitch shift or other pattern functions - there's a modified version of P-128 (P/Bnd Ctr2) in U/PTN-50 for a quiet switching transition. I've also added various cymbal & percussion sounds for inputs 16/17.

To try these revised and extra Multi-12 kits just download and instal my M12ALL3.MTA data file, or the individual M12KITS3.MTK, M12PTN3.MTP, M12TRGS3.MTT and M12UTIL3.MTU files from Dropbox: [DTXMULTI files]. First save the current data files to USB memory if you want to reload any of your kits, waves or patterns.
The optional Yamaha electronic or acoustic kits can be combined with the revised kits - I've added the kit setups for each of them and provided their ALLWAV files in EL_WAVES.MTW (35MB) and AC_WAVES.MTW (62MB). This option saves using Yamaha's .MTA files download, which replace all your User kits, wav samples, patterns, trigger and utility settings. The wave memory limitation of 64MB allows only one of the Allwave files to be loaded (Manual page 94). The kits that don't have their wave samples loaded are going to sound a bit strange as both wave sets use a similar number sequence. Expect a load time of over 4 mins for the EL_WAVES file (more than double that for the AC_WAVES file).
I'm interested in any other ideas to improve the Multi-12 as it's a 'work in progress',

I've recently set up an FC7-type pedal on my Multi-12 to control the Effects Send level, and tweaked some of my User kits settings for a useful range of variation. The extra pedal allows easy setting of the preferred effects mix, and so both feet can operate the standard hihat/kick or double kick pedal combinations as required.

Just plug your pedal into the Foot Sw jack and make a few simple Utility menu settings (that will affect all kits). Check the Owners manual pages 29 & 88 to set [UTIL4-2] FootSwInSel=FC7 and in [UTIL4-1] select FTSW (top row) and Func=CC94 (bottom row) - and Store these settings.
Then select any kit and your pedal should control the level of whatever effect is displayed in the KIT4-1 Variation menu. Refer to the Effect Type and Parameter lists (pages 15-19 in Data List) and Owners manual (pages 36-41) for the range of effects available. You can also assign other midi control change functions to the pedal (refer to page 20 in Data List).

The updated Multi-12 files are available from my previous link.

A similar setup using the Foot Switch jack should work on some other Yamaha DTX modules.

When controlling the Multi-12 effects with an FC7 pedal, it can be inconvenient to readjust it after changing kits. Fortunately there's a setting in the MIDI3-8 menu (CC Number & Value page) to preset the Effects Send level for each kit. I've updated my user kits with preferred Variation effects level values, by setting CCNo=94 and Val=0 to 127 for midi Ch10.
So there's one less pedal required with the hihat pedal setup as a basic effects controller.
The Multi-12 has some impressive features to help make the drum kits more versatile and sound better. ;)

The original Multi-12 Input Gain settings in its 5 trigger presets are too limited, which make the pads seem unresponsive. So I set up a more useful range of trigger input settings (in U1 to U10) as shown in this table: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2eghhozkdyxxtre/DTX%20Multi-12%20Trigger%20Setups.jpg?dl=0
The default trigger setting is Preset 02 whereas mine is User 10, which provides more than twice the gain on all trigger inputs, plus dynamic velocity response. They are easily accessed by pressing the SHIFT & UTILITY buttons to compare or change them.
An input gain of 60 (U10) is plenty for hand playing, but you can increase it up to 128 with the latest Yamaha Multi-12 firmware update.

This update of my revised Multi-12 kits settings has the extra Yamaha Acoustic kits inserted at U127-U130 for more convenient switching between similar sounding kits.
I've also duplicated kits U136-U140 at U141-U145 to provide 5 extra 'spaces' for your own custom kits or to copy the Yamaha Electronic kits from U165-U169 if required. Just be aware the extra Yamaha kits that don't have their WAV samples loaded are going to sound weird, as both WAV sets use a similar number sequence (from WV001 to 099).
Various tweaks have also been made to improve the kit sounds, and I've revised 3 of the trigger settings (U8/9/10) for better stick response, with U10 selected at startup.

To try these revised Multi-12 kits, you should first save your current data files to USB memory and download my files from here: Revised M-12 kits.
Then just load the M12ALL4.MTA data file or individual M12KITS4.MTK, M12PTN3.MTP, M12TRGS4.MTT and M12UTIL4.MTU files.

The extra Yamaha Acoustic or Electronic kits can be added to the revised kits with the ALLWAV files provided in AC_WAVES.MTW (62MB) and EL_WAVES.MTW (35MB). The wave memory limitation of 64MB allows only one of them to be loaded at a time (refer to O/M p-94), and expect a load time of over 4 mins for the EL_WAVES file (more than double that for the AC_WAVES file).

Is there another way to other than the listed download site which is prohibitive price wise, especially due to my doubt to use it other than this. Thanks so much for you substantial contribution.

David,
As usual, I'm not being clear. The cost I was referring to is the download subscription site. Is there any other place I can get the data without a subscription and/or an option of a reasonable one time download service?

Thanks

Hi... RhysT, thanks for sharing... I am wondering how to combine those acoustic and electronic drum sets. I will not miss vintage set, but I would add some kits from electronic bundle instead... is it possilble? Now I have just ac_kit.mta installed.
thank for a reply.

WHAT download subscription site? Name / URL? I only see DropBox mentioned in this thread - and that's free :)

It may be possible but would require a lot of effort as both WAV sets (AC_WAVES.MTW & EL_WAVES.MTW) use a similar number sequence (from WV001 to 099).

slightly off thread...when i l transfer the kits over to the ipad app the voices are all mapped to the auxiliary triggers --13-17, footswitch etc.
Is there a fix for this?

Maybe the problem is due to many of my Multi-12 kits having their instrument sounds re-assigned to alternate pads for more convenient playing layout/s IMO.

Hi rhysT,

Will this steps work to copy both Acoustic and Electric kit. I want only Oak and Rock from Acoustic and all of electric.

1. Import acoustic set -> delete kits other than ones you want to retain (oak and rock in my case). Delete other wave files as well to create space.
2. Change wave file location and name of files associated with Oak and Rock. Like WV027 changed to WV127 -> change assignment in oak/rock kit as well.
3. Change location of Oak and Rock kits to lets higher location like 50+
4. Export the oak and rock kits with option all.
5. Import Electric kit
6. Import acoustic kit exported in step 4.

TIA
